Language tuition: a reciprocal process

I have been teaching Spanish, French and English classes for the past 6 years, both as one-to-one tutorials and to larger classes. My students are from many different countries, are of all ages and range from absolute beginners to advanced learners.

I am a Fellow of the Atlantis Project, for which I designed and taught intensive English courses in the Azores, Portugal. I also have considerable teaching experience in Spain, the UK and on-line to students from all over the world.

For me, teaching is a reciprocal process. If a teacher is positive and their approach is innovative and interesting, the student will respond to it and put increased energy of their own into the lesson, upon which the teacher can then build further. For this reason, I tailor my lessons according to the individual interests of the students, and also base them on current events in the media and across the world. In this way, not only are students able to apply their language skills practically, but they should also find that language learning is an enjoyable experience!

My approach is gentle; I will never leave a student feeling that they have not fully grasped what I have said, and will happily explain again in as many ways as necessary until the concept is understood. We all learn in different ways, so adaptability is essential; I therefore use a variety of techniques, from visual aids to song lyrics.

I cater for various purposes, including language for business or for school exams.
